The Kozhikode district panchayat presented its Budget for the year 2024-25, focusing on various sectors that contribute to income generation. The Budget, presented by vice president P. Gavas, records an estimated surplus of ₹5.04 crore with allocations for infrastructure development (₹37.34 crore), agriculture sector (₹3.91 crore), animal welfare (₹4.19 crore), fisheries (₹47 lakh), and poverty alleviation (₹11.52 crore). Notably, the Budget also includes provisions for the development of Scheduled Castes (₹12.74 crore), scheduled tribes (₹82.38 lakh), women’s development (₹5.27 crore), and hygiene and waste management (₹3.74 crore).
To cater to the education sector, ₹5 crore has been earmarked, which includes the modernisation of school laboratories. Furthermore, ₹1 crore has been allocated for setting up solar power units in schools. The district panchayat is also working towards converting its office to e-office by March, with a budget of ₹3.97 crore for local development.
Additionally, the district panchayat aims to launch a campaign against drug abuse and has plans for a special project to support local and traditional artisans.
