Haryana’s Home Affairs department has announced the suspension of mobile internet services, bulk SMS, and all dongle services in seven districts of the state from February 11 to February 13. This decision was made in anticipation of the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march organized by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, involving over 200 farmers’ unions. The affected districts include Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad, and Sirsa. Farmer organizations have been protesting to press the government to accept their demands, including the enactment of a law guaranteeing a minimum support price (MSP) for crops. The Home Affairs department has ordered the suspension of internet services to prevent the spread of misinformation and rumors through social media platforms. Essential services like voice calls, individual SMS, mobile recharge, banking SMS, and internet services provided by broadband and lease lines will still be allowed. In preparation for the march, Haryana Police has deployed 50 companies of central paramilitary forces to maintain law and order. The Haryana Police will also seal the state’s borders with Punjab to prevent the farmers from heading towards the national capital. The farmers are demanding a legal guarantee for MSP, implementation of the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations, pensions for farmers and farm laborers, farm debt waiver, withdrawal of police cases, and justice for victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.
