Following India’s 79-run defeat against Australia in the U19 World Cup final in Benoni on Sunday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah consoled the ‘Boys in Blues’ and said their journey has left an ‘indelible mark’ in the tournament. Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Shah said that the India U19 team displayed the ‘true essence of cricket’ throughout the tournament. Shah also praised Uday Saharan’s ‘inspiring leadership’, as well as the contributions of other U19 players. He concluded by congratulating Australia U19 for winning the tournament. In the final match, Australia won by 79 runs, with India falling short in their chase of a target of 254 runs. Australia’s bowlers were exceptional and restricted India’s batting lineup. Despite the loss, Shah expressed his pride in the way the team played, with heart, pride, and a never-say-die attitude.
