Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated a Hindu Temple in Abu Dhabi, marking a historic moment as it is the first time a Hindu temple is being inaugurated in a Muslim country. The temple, known as Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam (BAPS) Mandir, is located in Abu Dhabi and covers an area of 27 acres. The construction of the temple began in 2019 and it is a testament to the strong relations between the UAE and India. During his visit to Abu Dhabi, PM Modi expressed his gratitude to the UAE president Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for the support and generous donation of the land for the construction of the Hindu temple. He emphasized that the temple is a symbol of the excellent relations between the two countries and will contribute to the bright future of the UAE. The inauguration of the temple is expected to strengthen cultural ties between India and the UAE. The BAPS Mandir features seven pinnacles that represent the seven emirates of the UAE. It also includes a visitor’s centre, prayer halls, library, classroom, playground, garden, and shops. Notably, the temple has been constructed without the use of concrete or steel, showcasing its unique architectural design. The BAPS Mandir will officially open to the public on March 1, 2024. This significant event highlights the religious tolerance and cultural diversity in the UAE and reinforces the country’s commitment to promoting harmony among various faiths. The inauguration of the Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi is a milestone in the history of interfaith relations and serves as a symbol of unity and respect for all religions.
