Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday laid the foundation stone for NLC India Ltd’s 300-mw solar power project in Barsingsar, Rajasthan. The total cost of the project is estimated at Rs 1,756 crore and it is scheduled to be commissioned in September. The project aims to provide green and cheap power to the region and create employment opportunities for the youth. Modi addressed the event through videoconferencing and highlighted the country’s progress in generating solar power. He also mentioned the signing of a power usage pact between NLC India and Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd for the entire capacity of 300 mw at a tariff of Rs 2.52 per unit. The strategic location of the project near the existing Barsingsar Thermal Power Station offers advantages in power evacuation and utilization of common infrastructure facilities.
