An IT professional from Aluva has fallen victim to an online scam in which he lost Rs 50 lakh. The cybercriminals, operating through Instagram and Facebook, lured potential victims and added them to Telegram groups. Through false testimonials and promises of high returns, they gained the trust of the victims who then invested large sums of money. In a similar incident, a Thrikkakara native lost Rs 2.6 crore, and an Aluva resident lost Rs 1.10 crore. The police emphasize the importance of reporting such crimes early for the highest chances of resolution. The District Police Chief urges caution and awareness while using the internet and handling cyberspace.
