The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has approached the Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench of Calcutta High Court, requesting a name change for a lioness at Bengal Safari Park. The VHP’s lawyer claims that the lioness, transferred from Tripura, was given the name ‘Sita’, while the park authorities deny assigning any name. The VHP’s north Bengal unit has filed a petition seeking a name change for the lioness, stating that the current name may hurt religious sentiments. The court will hear the petition on February 20.
