Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) to discuss important decisions regarding the promotion of cricket in Telangana. The HCA has decided to form Cricket Development Committees to enhance the sport at the district level. Along with this, the association plans to build mini-stadiums in every district of the state. They also aim to establish a cricket excellence academy at Uppal Stadium, which will have a boarding facility for 250 people. Additionally, a separate academy for women with 100 students will be allocated. The HCA has also proposed the construction of an international stadium in Hyderabad, estimating a budget of ₹100 crore. The association is actively working towards getting its pending funds released from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and is in the process of recognizing new district cricket associations.
The AGM went smoothly, with the presence of esteemed personalities like N. Shivlal Yadav (former BCCI president), Mohd Azharuddin (former India captain and ex-HCA president), Arshad Ayub (former Indian star), V. Hanumanth Rao, G. Vinod (former Ministers), and other ex-internationals. A. Jagan Mohan Rao expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the meeting and appreciated the valuable inputs provided by the members. He also acknowledged the efforts of HCA Secretary R. Devaraj.
The HCA’s decision to construct mini-stadiums in every district of Telangana aims to provide better infrastructure and facilities to aspiring cricketers at the grassroots level. Furthermore, the establishment of a cricket excellence academy at Uppal Stadium will help nurture and train talented individuals to excel in the sport. The boarding facility will ensure that the academy students receive comprehensive training and support. Additionally, a separate academy for women reflects the HCA’s commitment to promoting women’s cricket and providing equal opportunities for female players.
Another significant proposal made at the AGM was the construction of an international stadium in Hyderabad, which further highlights the association’s ambition to host top-level cricket events. With an estimated budget of ₹100 crore, this stadium will bring international matches and tournaments to the city, boosting the sports culture and economy.
The HCA is also focused on resolving its financial matters. The association aims to secure the pending funds from the BCCI, which will contribute to the overall development of cricket in the region. Additionally, it plans to recognize new district cricket associations, expanding the reach and inclusivity of the sport across Telangana.
The AGM witnessed a display of unity and cooperation, as Mr. Amarnath, who lost the elections, proposed the name of Mr. Jagan Mohan Rao as the HCA representative. Both the president and the secretaries have agreed to attend the BCCI meetings on a rotation basis, further strengthening the association’s involvement in national-level cricket administration.
Overall, the HCA’s decisions at the AGM reflect a positive and proactive approach to boost cricket in Telangana. The focus on grassroots development, infrastructure enhancement, and talent nurturing through the proposed mini-stadiums and cricket excellence academy will contribute to the growth of the sport. The HCA’s proposals for an international stadium and recognition of new district cricket associations demonstrate their aspirations to bring top-level cricket to Hyderabad and expand the game’s reach across the state.
