Lieutenant-Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has written to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, urging him to investigate the alleged goods and services tax (GST) evasion in Delhi and take measures to strengthen the tax administration. This comes after media reports highlighted the city’s high number of tax evasions, with 483 ‘bogus’ firms being detected, resulting in an evasion of ₹3,028 crore. Saxena expressed concern over the possibility of collusion among officials and stressed the need for stringent action. The Delhi government has condemned tax evasion and is committed to enforcing tax laws. However, it expressed frustration over the delay in implementing a software proposal to target tax evasion and improve revenue collection.
