The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an enforcement officer with the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) in Tirunelveli. The officer, identified as P Kabilan, was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of 2 lakh. The arrest came after the CBI received a complaint from the owner of a software company in Tirunelveli.
According to official sources, Kabilan had demanded 5% of the 3 crore received by the software company under the Union government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat Rozgar Yojana scheme. This scheme aims to boost the creation of new jobs in the formal sector by providing support for EPF contributions of new employees.
The owner of the company alleged that Kabilan had demanded a bribe of 15 lakh and had threatened to take action against the company if the amount was not paid. Based on the complaint, the CBI registered a case and laid a trap for Kabilan.
The CBI arrested Kabilan while he was accepting an advance bribe of 2 lakh. Further investigation into the case is currently underway.
