PM Modi to Attend Amul’s Golden Jubilee Celebrations, Inaugurate Projects Worth Rs 1,200 Crore

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the golden jubilee celebrations of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which owns the ‘Amul’ brand. The event will take place in Ahmedabad on Thursday. During the celebrations, PM Modi will inaugurate five projects worth Rs 1,200 crore.

The programme will be attended by more than 1.25 lakh dairy farmers, with representatives from around 18,600 villages in Gujarat. It is estimated that 40-45% of the farmers in the audience will be women.

GCMMF, which was established in 1973 with an annual turnover of Rs 20 crore, has emerged as the country’s leading FMCG organisation in the last 50 years. The Amul brand is set to achieve a turnover of Rs 80,000 crore, and Amul Federation a turnover of Rs 61,000 crore this financial year.

In addition to PM Modi, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, Union Animal Husbandry Minister Parshottam Rupala, and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will also be present during the golden jubilee celebrations.

The five new dairy projects that will be inaugurated by PM Modi include a modern cheese plant of Sabar Dairy, a long-life tetra pak milk plant of Amul Dairy at Anand, and the expansion of its chocolate plant. The PM will also inaugurate a 50,000-litre ice cream plant of Sarhad Dairy in Kutch and a unit of Bharuch Dairy in Mumbai. Various dairy development works under government schemes in the state’s Saurashtra-Kutch region will also be inaugurated.

GCMMF’s vision for the next 25 years will be discussed during the event.

Amul plans to invest Rs 11,500 crore in the next 2-2.5 years as part of the MoUs signed at the World Food India event. The investments will focus on dairy processing and collection systems, as well as setting up ultra-modern processing plants.

The golden jubilee celebrations and the discussions on GCMMF’s vision for the next 25 years highlight the significant achievements and future plans of the Gujarat-based cooperative, which has played a crucial role in the development of the dairy industry in India.
