The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) announced on Friday that players from Mumbai would pay tribute to former MCA President Manohar Joshi, who passed away, during the Ranji Trophy match against Baroda. The players will wear black armbands in honor of Joshi during the game. Additionally, a two-minute silence will be observed before the start of the match at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC stadium.

MCA Secretary Ajinkya Naik conveyed this decision in a statement, expressing the association’s condolences over Joshi’s demise.

Joshi, who served as the former MCA President, breathed his last at Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai around 3 am after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was 86 years old. The funeral arrangements for Joshi were also shared, with the ceremony scheduled to take place later in the day at the Dadar Shivaji Park Crematorium, where he would receive full state honors.

In the context of the ongoing Ranji Trophy match between Mumbai and Baroda, Mumbai won the toss and elected to bat first. The Mumbai playing eleven included prominent names like Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, and Shardul Thakur, among others. Baroda’s playing eleven featured players like Vishnu Solanki, Lukman Meriwala, and Raj Limbani.

Amidst the competitive cricketing action, the gesture of wearing black armbands and observing a moment of silence serves as a poignant reminder of the respect and reverence that Joshi commanded within the cricketing community. Such gestures highlight the deep impact and lasting legacy of individuals like Joshi, who contributed significantly to the sport’s growth and development.
