Mumbai: A 20-year-old collegian who had been absconding after allegedly killing two of his teenage friends at his tea stall in Nalasopara in May last year was arrested on Saturday. The accused had tried to make the assaults look like the job of an unidentified person and had even tried to set the stall on fire by leaking the LPG gas. On May 17, around 3 pm, the Achole police were informed about an assault and gas leakage at ‘Namaste Tea Cafe’ at Gala Nagar. Police found Shivam Mishra, with head injuries sitting outside his shop. The body of Rounak Tiwari (18), a class 12 student, was found inside the stall. Another victim, Kishan Jha (18), also a class 12 student, was lying inside the stall with injuries on the head. Mishra, who was running the stall for three months, told the police that some unidentified persons had hit them with iron rods. Tiwari was declared dead on admission. Jha was admitted to Shatabdi Hospital, Kandivali, where he succumbed to injuries a day later. Mishra was admitted to KEM Hospital. Tiwari’s uncle, with whom he was staying for four years, told the police that he suspected Mishra, who stayed in their building. He told the police that Mishra had borrowed Rs 20,000 from his nephew and had failed to do return the money even as his nephew kept pestering Mishra for the money. Police had booked Mishra for murder. Police were initially investigating a love angle to the killings. Mishra had sought anticipatory bail which was rejected by the Vasai court. He then moved Bombay high court for pre-arrest bail, which got rejected. Two police teams were formed to nab Mishra, who was held from Nalasopara on Saturday. He told the police that he had called Tiwari to his stall on May 17. Tiwari came but brought Jha along. Mishra asked Jha to go and fetch some refreshments. When Jha left, Mishra assaulted Tiwari on his head and killed him. He tried to set the stall on fire by leaking the gas. However, Jha returned with refreshments and saw Tiwari in a pool of blood. Mishra tried to assault Jha and the two got into an altercation. Mishra managed to assault Jha and rushed out of the stall. Locals, however, saw Mishra and informed the police. Police reached the spot and called the fire brigade personnel who fixed the gas leakage. CCTV images showed that no unidentified person had entered the stall at the time of the incident.
