Six people have been arrested by Kerala police in connection with the death of a student at the Government Veterinary College in Wayanad. The victim, JS Sidhharth, was found hanging in his hostel room on February 18. Initially investigated as a case of unnatural death, Sidhharth’s family claims he was murdered. They allege that the accused individuals are associated with the Student Federation of India (SFI), the student wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), and that the college has been protecting them.

On Thursday, a relative of Sidhharth stated that he was brutally attacked by a group of students on campus. Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan accused the police of protecting the accused and called for action against the teachers who tried to cover up the incident. The Youth Congress and the Muslim Students Federation (MSF) staged a protest demanding the arrest of all the accused individuals.

Law Minister P Rajeev assured that action will be taken against the culprits regardless of their affiliation with any organization. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has ordered the formation of a special investigation team to look into the matter and has promised strong action against the accused.
