Dasaratha asks Sumantra to recount all that happened after he drove the chariot taking Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita from Ayodhya to the forest. Sumantra relays Rama’s message to various individuals. Rama expresses his respect to his father and assures his mother Kausalya of his safety. Rama advises Bharata to act within the stipulated rules and treat all the royal mothers alike. Lakshmana, on the other hand, displays anger and questions the decision to exile Rama. He declares his loyalty to Rama and questions Dasaratha’s fatherhood.
