He stated that the coal stock in India is expected to reach 150 million tonnes by the end of March 2024, marking a 19.53% increase from the previous month. Of this total, 45 million tonnes will be held by coal-based power plants. The minister also mentioned that the country is on track to achieve its target of producing 1 billion tonnes of coal by the end of the fiscal year. As of March 6, the coal production had already exceeded 900 million tonnes. Furthermore, Joshi highlighted the success of government-led initiatives in reducing coal imports from 26% to 19%.
