United World Wrestling (UWW), the world governing body for wrestling, has declared that it will only consider entries for the upcoming Asian championships and Asian Olympic Games qualifier in Bishkek from its affiliated national body, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). This announcement followed the Delhi High Court’s decision that the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) appointed ad-hoc committee would oversee selection trials for the said events. The UWW’s support for the WFI comes after the national body’s suspension was lifted on February 13. In a letter, UWW President, Nenda Lalovic, emphasized that it is the responsibility of national federations affiliated to UWW to select and announce their teams for various tournaments and championships. The UWW firmly stated that no other entity should undertake this role on their behalf.
