Union Government Approves ₹1376.10 Crore for Widening of Roads in Tamil Nadu

The Indian government has allocated ₹1376.10 crore for the widening of the existing 2-lane paved shoulder from Tiruvallur to the Tamil Nadu/Andhra Pradesh border section of National Highway-716. This allocation is part of a larger plan to improve and upgrade road infrastructure in Tamil Nadu. The project aims to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and improve road safety. The widened road will benefit both interstate and intrastate commuters, promoting economic growth and development in the region.

The selected section of National Highway-716 is a crucial link connecting Chennai with the Andhra Pradesh border. It passes through important towns and districts, serving as a major transit route for both passenger and freight traffic. However, the current 2-lane paved shoulder is insufficient to handle the increasing volume of vehicles, leading to congestion and accidents. The widening project seeks to address these issues by expanding the road to accommodate more lanes and improve the overall infrastructure.

The allocated budget of ₹1376.10 crore will be utilized for land acquisition, construction, and other necessary expenses related to the widening project. The government aims to expedite the implementation of the project to ensure minimal disruption to commuters and maximize the benefits of the improved road. The development of this section of National Highway-716 is expected to boost trade, tourism, and overall connectivity between Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

This initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance road connectivity across the country. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has been actively working on several road development projects to improve travel infrastructure and promote economic growth. With the allocation of ₹1376.10 crore for the widening of National Highway-716, the government aims to facilitate smoother and safer transportation for citizens and promote regional development in Tamil Nadu.
