Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida faced intense scrutiny on March 13 during a parliamentary session. The questioning revolved around an event held in November, where female dancers from a group called Glamor Dancers were reportedly told to use their mouths to receive cash tips from participants. The event was organized by a local chapter of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). The leaked footage caused widespread criticism, and one of the organizers, Tetsuya Kawabata, resigned from the party. The incident is seen as a setback for LDP’s efforts to increase diversity in politics. Prime Minister Kishida emphasized that the event contradicted the government’s goal of promoting diversity and inclusivity. Two MPs who attended the event stepped down from their positions in the Youth Bureau of LDP, while remaining party members and lawmakers.
