Tata Motors revealed plans on Wednesday to establish a cutting-edge vehicle manufacturing facility in Ranipet, Tamil Nadu, with an investment of ₹9,000 crore. The company signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tamil Nadu government for this venture, which will be its second plant in southern India. The new unit is expected to create approximately 5,000 employment opportunities. Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed his enthusiasm for the investment, stating that it further cements the state’s standing as India’s unrivalled automobile capital, drawing parallels with Hyundai’s investment during the tenure of Kalaignar. The signing of the MoU took place in Chennai, with the presence of Stalin and senior executives from Tata Motors. This is Tata Motors’ first foray into investing in Tamil Nadu, and it marks a significant milestone for the state. TRB Rajaa, the Minister of Industries of Tamil Nadu, described the investment as a reinforcement of the region’s potential as a growth engine for the country, highlighting Tamil Nadu’s role as India’s auto capital.
