The 2024 Lok Sabha elections hold great significance for the future of India, according to D Raja, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India. He asserts that India’s secular democracy is currently under attack and defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is crucial to safeguard the country’s Constitution and democratic values. Raja dismisses the notion that the recent consecration of the Ram temple will heavily impact the upcoming elections, stating that the BJP’s interpretation of ‘Ram’ differs from the general public’s understanding. He sees the BJP’s ‘Modi ki Guarantee’ slogan as mere electoral rhetoric and a deception to the people, citing the government’s failure to deliver on promises related to job creation, black money retrieval, and curbing inflation. Raja emphasizes the critical nature of the 2024 elections, highlighting the diminishing state of governance and the increasing redundancy of Parliament. He deems it unprecedented that over 140 Members of Parliament were suspended during the previous winter session. Raja articulates that the primary objective of these elections is to remove the BJP from power, as he believes the party poses a threat to Indian democracy, the Constitution, and the overall well-being of the country. According to Raja, Parliament serves as the supreme institution of democracy, reflecting the will of the people. He quotes B.R. Ambedkar to assert the role of the Opposition in questioning the government’s policies. Raja warns that when Parliament loses its relevance, democracy itself is endangered. He perceives the current situation in India as an attack on secular democracy, with the BJP-Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) alliance seeking to redefine the nation and rewrite its history. Raja stresses the need to preserve India’s Constitution, democratic fabric, and federal system of governance. The communist leader downplays the significance of the recent Ram temple consecration in Ayodhya concerning the upcoming elections. He suggests that the BJP intends to exploit the temple issue for political gains, but he believes the public sees through this tactic. Raja argues that the concept of ‘Ram Rajya’ should encompass equality for all, excluding any discrimination or injustice. He questions the BJP and the RSS’s attempts to divide people based on religion and accuses them of imposing a theocratic nature upon the Indian nation, contending that this goes against the principles of India’s secular democratic republic. Raja highlights the importance of adhering to the Constitution, which explicitly states that India must remain secular and democratic. Furthermore, he criticizes the BJP’s ‘Modi ki Guarantee’ slogan, labeling it as deceptive. Raja points out the unfulfilled promises, such as creating 20 million jobs annually and retrieving black money. He questions whether the Modi government truly supports farmers, especially regarding the implementation of the Swaminathan commission report on setting a minimum support price for crops. Raja concludes by questioning the BJP’s intent to change the Constitution, referring to recent statements made by BJP MP Anantkumar Hegde. He prompts the party to clarify what they plan to replace the Constitution with and raises concerns about the suggestion of adopting Manusmriti in its place. Raja urges people to consider these critical factors when casting their vote in the upcoming elections to protect India’s future and the values of secular democracy.
