Assam secures over ₹13,000 crore investments in the last 14 months, says CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that Assam has secured investments amounting to ₹13,364 crore with the creation of over 17,000 jobs in the last 14 months. These investments have been committed through 21 proposals approved by the State Cabinet under the Industrial and Investment Policy of Assam (IIPA), 2019.

The IIPA was amended in 2023 to attract mega investments of ₹100 crore or more, with the provision of at least 200 permanent jobs. Sarma stated that while Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for 14 of these proposals were signed earlier, seven agreements were signed recently.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the government had introduced a policy in January 2023 to customize incentives for mega investors. He mentioned that seven more firms have committed to creating 6,500 jobs through an investment of ₹2,000 crore.

Sarma highlighted that, through this policy, Assam has attracted investments worth ₹13,364 crore and has generated 17,700 jobs in the last 14 months. Notable companies that have signed MoUs under this investment policy include PepsiCo India, Star Cement, Jericho Chemicals, Indian Hotels Company Limited, Maxim Infrastructure Private Limited, and Topcem India LLP.
