Election officials in Erode seized ₹16.50 lakh cash from a man from Andhra Pradesh. The seizure occurred at Lakshmi Nagar bus stop in Bhavani. The officials formed flying surveillance teams and static surveillance teams to enforce the model code of conduct (MCC) that came into effect on March 16, 2024. During a vehicle check, they intercepted a four-wheeler with Andhra Pradesh registration. The man in the vehicle, named Surendra and aged 50, is a lorry owner who had come to Tiruchengode to modify a rig he had purchased. As he did not produce valid documents, the officials seized the ₹16.50 lakh unaccounted cash he was carrying. The cash was then handed over to the Income-Tax officials, who were notified about the incident. In addition to this, the officials also seized unaccounted cash worth ₹4.73 lakh from motorists who failed to provide proper documentation.
