Judge Hearing Delhi Excise Policy Case Among 58 Transferred

Delhi High Court has carried out a reshuffle of district judiciary officers, including the transfer of special judge MK Nagpal who was presiding over cases associated with the Delhi excise policy. A total of 58 judges have been transferred by the high court, including 27 judges from Delhi Higher Judicial Service and 31 judges from Delhi Judicial Service. The special judge at the Rouse Avenue court complex has been transferred to Tis Hazari courts as district judge, Commercial Court. In his place, judge Kaveri Baweja has been appointed as the special judge to hear cases against MPs and MLAs at Rouse Avenue. The transfers also include the placement of newly appointed metropolitan magistrates who have completed their training. The move is considered a routine exercise within the judiciary. Special judge Nagpal had completed his three-year tenure and was due for a fresh posting. He was presiding over cases filed by the Enforcement Directorate and Central Bureau of Investigation related to the liquor policy case. He had also been deciding on bail applications filed by high-profile accused in the case, including former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, and BRS MLC from Telangana K Kavitha. The judge had recently summoned Congress MP Karti Chidambaram and others in a money laundering case linked to an alleged Chinese visa scam. Chidambaram has been directed to appear before the court on April 5.
