BJP has responded to Congress’ claim that its accounts have been frozen by the income tax department, alleging that the opposition party is indulging in political vendetta. BJP dismissed Congress’ allegations by stating that the party is rattled by the prospect of a historic defeat and is resorting to rants against Indian democracy and institutions. BJP President J P Nadda also asserted that Congress’ financial troubles are a result of their moral and intellectual bankruptcy, and not mere financial mismanagement. Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad justified the I-T department’s move to recover taxes due from Congress and accused the party of failing to file tax returns for years.
Nadda further criticized Congress for conveniently blaming its irrelevance on financial troubles when the actual problem lies in their own errors. He highlighted that various authorities, such as the ITAT and Delhi High Court, have repeatedly asked Congress to comply with rules and pay the taxes due, but the party has consistently failed to do so. Nadda mocked Congress’ plea of financial helplessness and pointed out that the party has amassed wealth through numerous scams, which can be utilized for their electioneering activities.
BJP also countered Congress’ claims about the state of Indian democracy, reminding them that there was a period of emergency in the country between 1975 and 1977 when India was not considered a democracy. Nadda referenced the leadership of Indira Gandhi during this phase to refute Congress’ allegation that India being a democracy is a lie.
The BJP leaders, Nadda and Prasad, urged Congress to acknowledge their mistakes and apologized for castigating institutions. BJP accused Congress of using the victim card to gain political mileage and emphasized the need for the opposition party to take responsibility for its own financial irregularities.
