The Punjab government has issued a show cause notice to State Principal Health Secretary Ajoy Sharma regarding the IVF treatment sought by Sidhu Moosewala’s family without informing CM Bhagwant Mann or the state Health Minister. The notice asks Sharma to reply the show cause notice within two weeks as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.

The notice states that Sharma was required to bring the IVF treatment matter to the notice of his Minister-in-charge and the Chief Minister and take their orders regarding further course of action. However, Sharma proceeded to act in the matter without bringing it to their notice or taking any orders from them. The notice considers this a serious lapse on Sharma’s part and asks him to show cause within two weeks why proceedings under the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969 should not be initiated against him.

Previously, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare sought a report from Punjab regarding the IVF treatment of Sidhu Moosewala’s mother, Charan Kaur, under the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021.

Sidhu Moosewala’s parents, Balkaur Singh and Charan Kaur, welcomed a baby boy almost two years after the singer was killed in Punjab. Balkaur Singh expressed distress over the government asking him to prove the legal status of his newborn son. He stated that he had all the legal documents and would prove it if the state did not believe him.

The AAP Punjab unit shifted blame to the central government for requesting the documents related to the IVF treatment. Opposition leaders criticized the AAP government for causing distress to the Sidhu family.

The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare’s order is based on Section 21 of the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulations) Act, 2021, which outlines the general duties of assisted reproductive technology clinics and banks.

Sidhu Moosewala, a popular singer, was shot dead in Punjab’s Mansa district on May 29, 2022.
