Bihar Board Intermediate students in Patna are protesting outside the JDU office, expressing their displeasure with the Bihar government’s decision to discontinue plus 2 classes in colleges beginning April 1, 2024. Students have been instructed to complete their intermediate education in schools rather than universities, which has caused them a lot of problems. They feel that the new rule should only apply to those students who want to avail it after taking their Class 10th exams. The protesting students have already paid fees and will lose a lot of money if the discontinuation happens. The Education department has stated that intermediate education (in all three streams – arts, science, and commerce) will now be imparted only in higher secondary schools from the new session. This decision aligns with the recommendation by the UGC and Administrative Reforms Commission to separate intermediate education from degree colleges.
