Protesting the arrest of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, opposition INDIA bloc on Friday petitioned EC accusing the Modi govt of “illegally” using central agencies to stifle political rivals, and demanded that the poll watchdog curtail the actions of ED, CBI, and I-T department till the elections are over. It said if EC did not provide a level playing field to the parties, the electoral process would lose all its sanctity. The delegation demanded that the EC change the heads of investigating agencies during the polls to ensure a level playing field. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, “It has become very clear that PM and the home minister are rattled by the INDIA bloc.” NCP(S) leader Sharad Pawar said BJP would have to pay the price for “misuse of power”. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav added, “Sending CM to jail and controlling news will not help them (BJP) as they are weakening democracy and suppressing the voice of those who want to raise the truth.”
