Yamini Aiyar, the president and CEO of Centre for Policy Research (CPR), a renowned think tank, will be stepping down from her current role on March 31, according to an announcement made by the board of the organization. This decision comes amidst ongoing investigations into Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) violations by CPR. Srinivas Chokkakula, a senior fellow at CPR and ministry of jal shakti research chair, will be assuming the role of president and CEO from April 1, as per the announcement. Yamini expressed her gratitude for leading CPR and highlighted the intellectual independence and democratic spirit of the organization. Under her leadership, CPR has collaborated with various government departments, autonomous institutions, and charitable organizations in India and abroad. The think tank has faced scrutiny from the income tax department for suspected tax law violations and its registration was suspended by the home ministry under the FCRA. CPR’s partners and donors include renowned institutions and organizations like the World Bank, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Niti Aayog, Ford Foundation, and several universities. CPR has worked closely with government bodies and grassroots organizations in areas such as environment, rural development, and water resources.
