The- Supreme Court has reprimanded Ramdev, well-known yoga guru, and Acharya Balkrishna, the CEO of Patanjali Ayurved Ltd, for their absolute defiance in a case related to advertisements made by Patanjali. The court granted them a week to file their affidavits. The bench, headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan, also directed their presence on the next hearing scheduled for April 10. The court expressed its dissatisfaction with their behavior and stated that absolute defiance would not be tolerated. The case was filed by a person named Mainak Das in 2012, alleging false information in advertisements made by Patanjali. The court had issued a notice to Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna in February, seeking their response. However, the court noted that no response was received from them. The court further stated that their absence cannot be allowed as it was a serious matter. The bench granted them a week to file their affidavits on the issue. The court also directed them to be present on the next hearing to explain their position. It warned that strict action will be taken against them if they fail to comply with the court’s order. The bench asserted that they cannot take the matter lightly and their presence is necessary as per the court’s order. Ramdev is a prominent figure in the field of yoga and Ayurveda and has a massive following in India. Patanjali Ayurved Ltd is a multi-billion dollar company that manufactures and sells Ayurvedic products. The company has faced criticism in the past for false and misleading advertisements. This case is significant as it involves a leading personality and a large corporate entity. The court’s decision to reprimand them shows a strong stance against false advertising practices.
