Election officials in Erode have seized cash, dress materials, and other items worth a total of ₹4.99 crore during the ongoing Lok Sabha polls. The seizure took place after the Model Code of Conduct came into force on March 16. To ensure the implementation of the code, 25 flying squads and 24 static surveillance teams were formed across the district’s eight Assembly Constituencies. So far, ₹4,99,06,195 cash transported without valid documents, dress materials worth ₹47,815, and liquor bottles, gutka, and other items worth ₹1,15,44,632 have been seized. However, after the submission of valid documents, the committee has released cash amounting to ₹2,53,66,593, and other items worth ₹12,46,480 have also been released. Out of the seized cash, ₹50.32 lakh were seized in Erode (West) Assembly constituency, ₹35 lakh were seized in Bhavanisagar Assembly constituency, and ₹10 lakh were seized in Gobichettipalayam Assembly constituency. These amounts have been handed over to the Income-Tax Department.
