Chairperson of the Maharashtra State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Susieben Shah, has written to the Chief Electoral Officer in Maharashtra, S Chockalingam, requesting action to be taken against Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Sushma Andhare. Shah accuses Andhare of using children to gain political advantage, which is considered a breach of the election code of conduct. The incident took place in Nagpur, where Andhare brought a 17-month-old infant to a press conference. Shah alleges that Andhare has violated directives issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on February 5, 2024, which forbid the use of children for election propaganda. The use of children for political gain or election campaigning is strictly prohibited under any circumstances, and Shah has demanded appropriate action to be taken.
