Jindal Stainless Ltd (JSL) has announced a significant reduction of 2.4 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions between 2022-23 and 2023-24. The company is taking various measures to reduce the carbon component in its emissions to nil by 2050. JSL aims to generate over 1.9 billion units of clean electricity per annum and reduce over 13.52 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions annually by the targeted year. Over the past two fiscal years, Jindal Stainless has successfully reduced approximately 2.4 lakh tonnes of CO2 emissions, moving closer towards carbon neutrality and responsible manufacturing. The company has adopted renewable energy sources for its operations and has started producing green hydrogen for steel-making processes. It has also implemented digitalisation and technology upgradation for energy efficiency and has incorporated electric vehicles (EVs) at its facilities in Odisha and Haryana. JSL has joined the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which will aid in developing measures to help the company meet its net zero emission targets. The SBTi initiative is designed to assist companies in setting ambitious reduction targets aligned with climate science.
