Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Siachen Base Camp in Ladakh on April 22, 2024. Accompanied by Army Chief Gen. Manoj Pande, he reviewed India’s military preparedness in the region. The visit comes after the Indian Army celebrated the 40th year of its presence in Siachen. Singh interacted with the soldiers deployed at Siachen, where they have to brave extreme weather conditions. Siachen Glacier is known as the highest militarised zone in the world. Under ‘Operation Meghdoot’, the Indian Army gained full control over Siachen in 1984. The Army has strengthened its presence in the region in recent years.
