A constable named Ramavath Ramadas from Achampet police station in Nagarkurnool district has won acclaim for his kind gesture towards an elderly lady devotee. The incident occurred during the three-day Saleshwaram jatara held in the Nallamala forest. Ramadas noticed the 70-year-old woman struggling to climb the rocky path and offered to carry her on his back. Despite the challenging terrain, Ramadas successfully carried her for the entire four-km stretch and dropped her off at the bus stop. Ramadas, who has prior experience helping jatara devotees, earned praise from the public, colleagues, and superiors for his compassionate act.

This is not the first time Ramadas has gone out of his way to assist jatara devotees. In a previous incident in 2022, he carried two devotees on his shoulders to safety during a stampede. Ramadas’ dedication and physical fitness, along with his familiarity with the tough terrain, made the arduous journey possible. He took short breaks to rest and provided the elderly woman with water whenever necessary. Reflecting on his past experiences, Ramadas shared how he had to take on odd jobs to support his family. His involvement in jatara arrangements, including carrying heavy equipment, prepared him for the challenging task.

Ramadas’ selfless act has gained immense admiration from the general public and his colleagues. G Ravindar, the Achampet circle inspector, commended him for his friendly and compassionate behavior. Ramadas joined the police force in 2007 and has since proven himself as an accomplished athlete. He even qualified for a 5K run at the international level in March 2024 and previously won gold at the national level for a 5K walk.

The constable’s heartwarming act of carrying an elderly devotee on his back through a rocky terrain stands as a testament to the kindness and dedication demonstrated by individuals in the police force. Ramadas’ actions have not only earned him recognition but have also inspired others to show compassion and assistance to those in need.
