Chennai Weather: High Humidity and Rising Temperatures Expected
    Uncategorized

The city of Chennai is not currently experiencing heatwave conditions like some of the interior districts, but it is expected to continue to swelter under high humidity. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted day temperatures of 36-37°C with up to 80% humidity in the city and suburbs. While temperatures in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam have been between 35°C and 38 °C, the seabreeze that was keeping temperatures in check has pushed humidity to around 70%. The IMD bulletin states that maximum temperatures in the city and the neighboring areas may reach 36–37°C while minimum temperatures may be around 27–28°C for the next 48 hours. Humidity levels are likely to range from 50–80% over the coastal areas until May 1. Heatwave conditions may continue in pockets of north interior Tamil Nadu, where temperatures are 3-5°C above normal. Humidity levels may also range from 40–75% in the plains of interior districts. Blogger Pradeep John warns that the heatwave is expected to peak from May 1 to 4 in the north interior of Tamil Nadu, specifically in Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Trichy, and Karur.
