Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency, Kompella Madhavi Latha, has filed a petition in the Telangana High Court to quash a criminal case registered against her by the Begumbazar police. The case was registered after a complaint was filed alleging that Latha made a gesture of shooting an imaginary arrow aimed at a religious place at Siddiamber Bazar. The police registered a case under Section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). However, the petitioner argues that the content of the complaint does not constitute any cognisable offence.

The petitioner, Kompella Madhavi Latha, has contended in her plea that the gesture she made does not amount to hurting religious sentiments or any other cognisable offence. She asserts that the complaint filed against her is based on a misconstrued perception of her actions. Latha argues that the content of the complaint does not fulfil the requirements for invoking Section 295-A of the IPC, which pertains to deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings.

The case is likely to come up for hearing in the Telangana High Court in a day or two. Latha is hopeful that the court will consider her plea and quash the criminal case registered against her. She maintains that her gesture was not meant to cause any harm or hurt religious sentiments. Latha believes that the complaint against her is politically motivated and an attempt to tarnish her image and disrupt her election campaign.

Latha’s petition to quash the criminal case against her has garnered attention due to the ongoing General Elections in India. As a BJP candidate, her actions and the subsequent legal proceedings have become a topic of interest and debate. The outcome of the case will have implications not just for Latha personally, but also for the BJP’s campaign in Hyderabad. It remains to be seen how the Telangana High Court will decide on the matter and what impact it will have on the upcoming elections in the region.
