Munir Khan, brother of jailed separatist leader Nayeem Khan, has filed his nomination papers from the Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency in Jammu and Kashmir. The constituency is set to go to polls in the fifth phase on May 20.
Nayeem Khan, who headed the Jammu Kashmir National Front, was arrested in 2017 on charges related to terrorism. The front was banned by the government under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Munir Khan, a member of the Jammu Kashmir Nationalist People’s Front Party, launched two years ago, submitted his nomination papers before Baramulla’s Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa, who is the returning officer for the constituency.
Other prominent candidates who have filed nominations from the Baramulla seat include former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, People’s Conference President Sajad Lone, former Rajya Sabha MP and PDP leader Mir Fayaz, and former MLA Sheikh Abdul Rashid, also known as Engineer Rashid, who is currently in jail.
The last date for filing nominations from the constituency is May 3, and the polling is scheduled to take place on May 20.
