Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea (Vi) have announced their participation in the spectrum auction conducted by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in India. The auction is expected to commence on March 1, 2022, and will feature the sale of 2,308.80 MHz of spectrum across seven frequency bands. The reserve price for the auction has been set at Rs 96,317 crore ($13.2 billion). The spectrum being auctioned includes frequencies in the 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, and 2500 MHz bands. The participation of Jio, Airtel, and Vi, the three major telecom operators in India, is expected to be highly competitive as they aim to enhance their network capacity and expand their 4G and future 5G services. The auction will provide an opportunity for the operators to acquire additional spectrum to meet the growing demands of mobile data services and improve the quality of their networks. The outcome of the auction will have a significant impact on the future of the telecom industry in India and the availability of high-speed internet services to consumers. It will also determine the readiness of the operators to adopt advanced technologies like 5G in the near future.
