A case of sexual harassment has been registered against G Devaraje Gowda, a BJP leader from Hassan. Police revealed that Gowda had previously written to the saffron party leadership, flagging Prajwal Revanna’s alleged sexual abuse of several women, before the alliance between BJP and JD(S) was formed. The FIR was filed against Gowda in April but only recently came to light after his whistleblowing in the Prajwal Revanna case. Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, is the JD(S)-BJP candidate for the Lok Sabha polls in Hassan. Devaraje Gowda, an advocate, had also contested against Prajwal’s father in the 2023 assembly election and accused the Congress leadership in Karnataka of leaking the sexual abuse videos. The case against Gowda was lodged following a complaint by a 36-year-old woman from Hassan district, who accused him of molesting her under the guise of helping her sell her property.
