Ayesha, who is a journalist, broadcaster, and stand-up comic, has her ancestral roots in North Lakhimpur, Assam. She was born in Bellshill in 1975 and raised in Coatbridge, Scotland. Baroness Hazarika of Coatbridge is the title bestowed upon Ayesha Hazarika after her formal induction ceremony into the House of Lords on May 9. She proudly wore the traditional scarlet robes for the occasion. Prior to her appointment, Ayesha had served as a special adviser to British politicians.
Expressing her gratitude and joy, Ayesha shared, ‘What an incredible, special day spent with family and friends. Especially my amazing parents who came here as Indian Muslim immigrants and worked so very hard. It is genuinely the honor of my life to join the House of Lords as a Labour peer.’
In recognition of her commendable political service, Ayesha Hazarika was awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2016.
