Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha constituency in Andhra Pradesh is one of the twenty-five Lok Sabha constituencies in the state. The constituency will go to polls on May 13, with the results set to be declared on June 4.

In the upcoming elections, the ruling party Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) has fielded Botsa Jhansi Lakshmi as their candidate for Visakhapatnam. Botsa Lakshmi is the wife of State Education Minister and YSRCP senior leader, Botsa Satyanarayana.

Botsa Jhansi Lakshmi will face tough competition from the Telugu Desam Party’s candidate Sri Bharat and Congress’s candidate P Sathyanarayana Reddy in Visakhapatnam. Sri Bharat is the son-in-law of actor Nandamuri Balakrishna.

The election in Visakhapatnam is crucial as it is witnessing a 3-corner contest. Both TDP and Jana Sena party have joined hands with BJP, which is in favor of privatizing the Vizag Steel Plant. Botsa Jhansi Lakshmi has urged the people not to vote for such parties that support privatization of the steel plant.

In the 2019 general elections, MVV Satyanarayana of YSRCP emerged victorious in Visakhapatnam by defeating TDP’s Bharat Mathukumilli in a close contest. Satyanarayana won the seat by a margin of 4414 votes, while Jana Sena party candidate VV Lakshmi Narayana secured 288,874 votes.

It is important to note that Lok Sabha and Assembly elections will be held simultaneously in Andhra Pradesh on May 13, with the counting of the votes scheduled for June 4. Andhra Pradesh has a total of 25 Lok Sabha seats.

In the previous Lok Sabha elections in 2019, YSRCP secured a majority by winning 22 seats, while TDP could only manage to win three seats. The principal opposition party TDP will once again take on the ruling YSRCP, with an alliance with the Jana Sena Party and BJP.

Under the seat-sharing deal among the NDA partners, TDP has been allocated 144 Assembly and 17 Lok Sabha constituencies, while BJP will contest from six Lok Sabha and 10 Assembly seats. Jana Sena party will contest two Lok Sabha and 21 Assembly seats.

In the 2019 Assembly elections, the YSRCP won a thumping majority of 151 seats, while the TDP was confined to 23 seats.
