IMD Warns of Thunderstorms and Heavy Rainfall in Goa

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded an alarm for significant weather events expected this week in Goa. The IMD’s latest forecast predicts pre-monsoon showers dominating the weather patterns, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. On May 13 and 14, there is a likelihood of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and winds gusting at speeds of 30-40 kmph at isolated locations across Goa. The IMD expects moderate to heavy rainfall in many areas during these two days. On May 15, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected at a few places. May 16, 17, and 18 may witness isolated instances of light rain, while haze is forecast for the morning of May 13. Parts of Goa have already experienced a considerable influx of precipitation over the weekend, with areas like Ponda, Ela, Valpoi, and Pernem receiving notable amounts of rainfall. Panaji recorded the highest maximum temperature at 34.6 degrees Celsius, while Dabolim noted the lowest minimum temperature at 24.3 degrees Celsius. The IMD does not expect any significant changes in the maximum temperatures over the next five days.
