Police Raid on Over 5,000 Commercial Establishments, Book Over 3,000 Cases

Police in Bengaluru conducted a raid on Saturday, targeting commercial establishments across the city. The raid resulted in the inspection of 535 wine stores, 838 bars and restaurants, 1,823 tea stalls and bakeries, 707 lodges, 931 PG accommodations, and 526 other places. In total, over 5,000 commercial establishments were visited by the police. As a result, 907 cases were filed under the Karnataka Police Act, 2,744 cases were filed under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, three cases were filed under the Juvenile Justice Act for selling tobacco products and liquor to minors, and one case was filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Apart from commercial establishments, the police also raided the houses of 734 rowdies and 434 habitual offenders. In addition, the traffic police checked 13,468 vehicles and arrested 196 motorists for drunk driving. This crackdown by the police was initiated in response to complaints received from the public during a recent meeting with the police.

This police action is part of the ongoing efforts to ensure law and order in Bengaluru and address public concerns regarding the sale of illegal substances and alcohol to minors. By conducting such raids and taking strict action against offenders, the police aim to create a safer environment for the city’s residents and visitors.

In related news, the city police have recently detained YouTuber Savukku Shankar under the Goondas Act. The arrest was made by the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner based on seven cases, including defamatory comments. Similarly, the Supreme Court has questioned the Enforcement Directorate’s selective approach under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and highlighted delays in the investigation of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia, while reviewing evidence including approvers’ statements implicating Kejriwal.
