The department of civil supplies and consumer affairs in Goa has launched a probe into the explosion of a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder in the hutments of Bambolim. The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon and resulted in an investigation being ordered. Additionally, the department is looking into a gas cylinder leak in Vasco, where one person died and three others were rendered unconscious. The concerned inspector has been asked to inquire into the incident. The department aims to ascertain the causes of both incidents and determine if the LPG companies supplying the cylinders were at fault.

Based on the reports submitted by the inspectors, the department will take appropriate measures and action. A meeting has also been scheduled with representatives of LPG companies on Friday. The purpose of this meeting is to learn about the safety aspects and measures adopted by the LPG companies. The department wants to determine if the companies are creating the required awareness among the public. Instructions will be issued to the LPG companies to prevent such incidents from occurring again.

The official from the department highlighted that their inspectors have limited powers and can only inspect the dealer and not the houses of consumers using domestic cooking gas. However, whenever complaints are received from consumers, the department’s inspectors do inspect the godowns of dealers. The official advised consumers to get their gas stove, pipe, and regulator checked regularly to ensure their safety.
