Chemists Bartozzi, Sharpless and Meldal won Nobel for click

Chemistry Nobel for trio who make molecules click

Carolyn R Bertozzi , K Barry Sharpless, and Morten Meldal have been jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry for finding out a way for molecules to easily “snap together”, called click chemistry. Second time winner Sharpless came up with molecular chemistry that easily builds blocks; which Meldad had in the early 2000s discovered as the “ideal” click chemistry. He found that to combine two molecules, an addition of azide and alkyne molecule was needed. Meanwhile, artozzi found alternative click chemistry in order to use it on living cells, which is now being used on glycans for tumours.
