66 deaths in Gambia, these cough syrups create hysteria

After the death of 66 children in Gambia, WHO has alerted the Indian government to ban four cough syrups of the Indian pharmaceuticals company- Maiden Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Sonipat, Haryana. The syrups Promethazine Oral Solution, Kofexmalin Baby Cough Syrup and Magrip N Cold Syrup, contain “contaminants” diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol, which are toxic for human consumption. The products were sent to Gambia for testing in intents of quality parameters, as found out by the CDSCO (Central Drug Standard Control Organization).
