As of a petition filed against Prathap Kumar G, a resident of Kurubarahalli in Bengaluru, the said man was accused of knocking a pet dog in 2018 while rashly driving, under Section 279 (fine or imprisonment upon hurting a person while rash driving) of the IPC. The same has been denied by the Karnataka High Court in claims of a pet animal not being mentioned in the section anywhere, thus relieving it as a criminal offence. In 2018, the pet dog Memphi was taken for a walk when the driver Prathap bumped into it in an SUV.
