Record-breaking fertilizer subsidy of 2.2L Cr

Due to international tensed circumstances, the load of fertilizers subsidy for the rabi season has landed heavily on the government, reaching at a record breaking 2.2 Lakh Crore. Earlier, the budget was decided to be around ₹21,000 Crore, and ₹54,000 Crore for urea and non-urea fertilizers, however, it spiked to ₹1.39 Lakh subsidy for the rabi season alone. The sudden hike took place due to the ongoing volatility of the market adhering to the war of Russia and Ukraine. Subsidy has been increased to “shield” farmers from expensive soil nutrients, says Union fertiliser minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
