Cyclonic storm Biparjoy recently wrecked havoc on the Saurashtra-Kutch region in Gujarat. While the coastal belt bore the brunt of the destruction, the disaster management exercise provided bursts of joy as more than 700 babies were born to women who were shifted from their homes to maternity homes or special shelters. As many as 1,200 women, who were in their last week of pregnancy, were transported to hospitals, healthcare centres, or safe locations. The state government has announced compensation for all those who were shifted from their homes.
